Exploring Culinary Delights at The Fort Sutter Hotel: The Four Palms and Cafe Bernardo in Sacramento, CA

Hello, lovely readers of ThereGoesSaraRose.com!

I hope you’ve all been enjoying our recent deep dive into the charming Fort Sutter Hotel. Nestled in the heart of Midtown Sacramento, this boutique gem has truly captivated our hearts with its unique blend of artistic charm and modern elegance. Today, I’m thrilled to take you on a culinary journey through the hotel’s two exceptional dining options: The Four Palms and Cafe Bernardo. Whether you’re staying at the hotel or just passing through, these eateries promise an unforgettable gastronomic experience.

The Four Palms: A Gourmet Oasis

First up, let’s talk about The Four Palms, the hotel’s signature restaurant. As you step into this sophisticated space, you’re immediately enveloped in a warm, inviting atmosphere. I really appreciated the comfortable bar seating! The decor is a harmonious blend of contemporary chic and subtle nods to Sacramento’s rich art culture. Think plush seating, elegant lighting, and tasteful art pieces that set the stage for a memorable dining experience [1].

The Menu: A Symphony of Flavors

The Four Palms prides itself on offering a menu that showcases the best of California cuisine with a gourmet twist. The chefs here are dedicated to using locally-sourced, seasonal ingredients, ensuring that every dish bursts with fresh, vibrant flavors [2]. This is not to speak ill of other restaurants, but if you were ever worried about the quality of the food dipping right before close – this is not one of those places!

For starters, you can’t go wrong with their Crispy Cauliflower, Three Street Tacos and Seasonal (Prosciutto) Pizza [3]. I’m a sucker for mushrooms so I also tried their Mushroom & Jarlsberg Cheese Salad! Everything was absolutely amazing and cooked to perfection. The cauliflower took the crown only because I’m still trying to figure out how they got it so tasty and crispy!

Perfect Pairings

No sophisticated meal is complete without the perfect drink to accompany it. The Four Palms boasts an impressive wine list, featuring selections from some of California’s finest vineyards. Whether you’re a fan of robust reds or crisp whites, the knowledgeable staff can help you find the ideal pairing for your meal. Additionally, their craft cocktail menu is not to be missed – the Sazerac, with its refreshing blend of rye whisky, sugar, bitters and absinthe, is a personal favorite [4]. After the Second Saturday Art Walk (blog post coming soon!), I believe I walked close to two miles so I was ready for something a little stronger!

Cafe Bernardo: Casual Comfort

Next, we venture to Cafe Bernardo, the quintessential spot for those seeking a more laid-back dining experience without compromising on quality. This beloved local chain has become a staple in Sacramento’s dining scene, and its Fort Sutter location certainly lives up to the hype [5]. As I arrived on a holiday weekend and wanted to miss the crowds, I arrived when the restaurant opened and watched the staff busy with their tasks and families bustle in. This experience reminded me so much of sitting eating beignets in New Orleans that I sighed in happiness before the food even arrived. But it wasn’t just the food, it was the hospitality….I felt welcome.

The Atmosphere: Relaxed and Inviting

Cafe Bernardo exudes a casual, welcoming vibe that makes it the perfect place for a leisurely brunch, a quick lunch, or a cozy dinner. The interior is bright and airy, with plenty of natural light streaming in through large windows. It’s the kind of place where you can relax with a good book, catch up with friends, or enjoy a solo meal while people-watching [6].

All-Day Dining

One of the best things about Cafe Bernardo is its all-day dining concept, which means you can enjoy their delicious offerings from morning till night. Breakfast lovers will swoon over the Chilaquiles, a made-from-scratch dish featuring eggs, chorizo, cotija cheese, cilantro and salsa verde all atop crispy tortilla chips. For dessert or on the go, try from their array of baked goods! [7].

If you’re stopping by for dinner, I’ve been told the Roasted Chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables is comfort food at its finest. And then don’t forget to save room for dessert – their Bread Pudding with bourbon caramel sauce is the perfect sweet ending to any meal [8].

Sipping in Style

Cafe Bernardo also offers a delightful selection of beverages, from freshly brewed coffees and teas to refreshing house-made sodas. For those who enjoy a tipple, their beer and wine list features local favorites as well as classic choices that pair beautifully with their menu [9]. However, one of the nicest things was to just have my own refreshing large bottle of water after such a hot weekend! (Check out my blog post coming soon, Second Saturday Art Walk!)

Comments from Cafe Bernardo

As the chilaquiles were some of the best I’d ever had (and I order them everywhere I go), I had to ask the chef about the food!

Everything is from scratch. We do buy the best! And from locally owned farms; We current support Produce Express for all produce while meats are from Niman Ranch farms.

We also have Special Menus for the holidays, like on St. Patricks day we had Corn Hash meals. The menu changes with the seasons, too! Come back again!

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re in the mood for an upscale dining experience or a casual bite, The Fort Sutter Hotel has you covered with The Four Palms and Cafe Bernardo. Each offers a unique atmosphere and a delectable menu that promises to satisfy every palate.

So, next time you find yourself in Midtown Sacramento, make sure to carve out some time to visit these fantastic eateries. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you!

Until next time, happy dining!
