It’s 7:41 a.m. on a Saturday morning and I’m still waiting for my train. Is it late? I pull out my phone and check the Amtrak app. *fudge* My ticket is for 7:39 p.m. today! The event I am trying to get to begins at 2:30 p.m., four hours away. This will not work at all. Good thing I got Amtrak’s travel insurance!
A few swipes and taps later and my new ticket has me leaving today at 9:37 a.m. *whew* Crisis averted! Yes, time hiccups are a reality of using public transportation, but it is a fair exchange in preserving my energy and staying off our congested highways. Plus, my vacation starts as soon as I sit down, not when I arrive!
Later that morning, I’m settled into my favorite spot in an Amtrak Cafe car. Purchased snacks in hand, WiFi connected, and videography underway, my vacation has begun. When it’s time to scan my phone for my ticket, Amtrak staff ask about my recording gear.
