The people I work with are each a shining star and inspirations in their own right. They not only introduced me to a wholesome coffee shop, but also one of the most amazing and diverse first weeks on the job! These individuals aren’t just working, it is evident they care and support each other as a way of being. I’m starting to notice this is a reoccurring theme amongst Sacramentans! This article is dedicated to the “Old Souls” I’ve met this past week as we embark on a journey through time and flavor and the story of Old Soul Co., a newfound haven for exceptional coffee and food in Sacramento!

How It Began

In 2002, the roots of Old Soul Co. were planted in a shared passion for cafe culture, coffee roasting, and baking. Fast forward to 2006, where the dream materialized in the form of a renovated warehouse in Midtown Sacramento. Tim and Jason, fueled by family support and unwavering dedication, transformed an obscure alley into the beating heart of farm-fresh dishes.

The origins were humble, with $2 cash payments in a jar under the “honor system.” As the aroma of freshly baked pastries and rich coffee wafted through the air, the community clamored for retail offerings, pushing Tim and Jason out of their comfort zone and birthing The Alley – Sacramento’s first farm-to-table cafe.

Today, Old Soul Co. thrives in its original location, a testament to its loyal customers and committed coffee producers. With three additional cafes, an expanded menu, and a network of partners, Old Soul Co. has become a cherished part of Sacramento’s culinary landscape.

What sets Old Soul Co. apart is its commitment to storytelling. For sixteen years, they’ve celebrated the unsung heroes – farmers and artisans worldwide – by providing a platform for their hard work and artistry. The menu boasts fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, a testament to enduring partnerships built on dedication, passion, and a shared excitement for life. And trust, it smells amazing every time I’ve visited!

The Old Soul Co. “team” is more than just a group of employees; it’s a family working around the clock to craft exceptional experiences. From bakers burning the midnight oil to baristas creating the perfect cup, each member contributes to the success of this unique business model.

But it doesn’t stop there. Old Soul Co. extends its family to producer partners, picker patio workers, and mill workers, recognizing their vital role in the journey from bean to cup. In 2020, the entire staff earned the title of “Old Souls,” a fitting tribute to their resilience and dedication during challenging times.
